![]() ![]() Pop Smoke provides an incredibly catchy hook to the song that is memorable and hard to ignore. The song starts off with a beat that sounds like it was created with Carlos Santana’s legendary guitar riffs but still continues its transition into an up-tempo bouncy beat that you hear in modern hip hop beats that are put out by new artists of this day and age. From the crisp beat to the lyrical concepts in the guest rapper verses, it all really connects and relate to the overall concept of the song. The production values are tight and the arrangement is timeless. This song is a standout and my personal favourite. will rejoice and feel like they are in a time warp. Pop Smoke's production team did an amazing job of bringing back a vibe of nostalgia and creative musical interpolations. The nostalgic feel of this beat is reminiscent of a sound that 50 Cent and the G-unit Crew would rap on during their prime in the early 2000's. The bouncy beat and addictive repetition of the ad libs/quips by Da Baby and Lil Baby found on ‘For the Night’ make this track an addictive anthem for one crazy pandemic summer and is stuck on repeat in this reviewer’s playlist. I’m sure his fan base would have demanded videos for every song on this album. ![]() Too bad Pop Smoke wasn’t still here to witness all of the success this album is currently having. As he was mixing the record, it didn't sound right to have Pop Smoke go first, so he reversed the order of rappers on the song. In several interviews, 50 has stated that this record was supposed to have Pop Smoke rapping his lyrics first and then Lil Baby and DaBaby would come in later with their verses. by CashmoneyAP and Palaze)ĥ0 cent was able to produce and assemble this song perfectly. The only difference between 50 Cent and Pop Smoke was that 50 Cent to use a lyric, "Got Rich and didn't die" while Pop Smoke was on his way to becoming wealthy, but sadly didn’t survive his brush with death. Clearly, he was able to overcome them and find success on his own terms. You can sense in his music and lyrics that he had faced many hardships in his life. His athletic career was cut short due to a heart murmur. ![]() He was a college basketball player who received a full scholarship to play in Philadelphia. Pop Smoke did not originally plan to have a career in the music industry. They both had the same hunger and desire to succeed. They both started from impoverished and rough beginnings. They even have the same last name even though they are not related to each other. Their stories are very similar to one another. What is most incredible is that this posthumous debut album went on to sell 251,000 copies in its first week of release, on July 3rd 2020.īefore I give my review of this album, I would like to state that it is very evident Pop Smoke used 50 Cent's career as inspiration for his own. ![]() Hailing from the Borough of Canarsie Brooklyn, an area in New York which many consider to be the Mecca of hip hop music, the community was 100% behind Pop Smoke and his "Woo" movement. Before his untimely demise at 20 years old, Pop Smoke was on his way to becoming the first New York City rapper since 50 cent to become a mega superstar and dominate the industry. ![]()
